Version Crayfish Trap:
The Commercial Version
crayfish trap can be fished in any body of water and it truly excels where there
are high populations of crayfish, it will catch and hold up to 20 pounds of crayfish in a single 24
hour setting and this IS NOT unusual. I have
received reports this trap has caught a record of 28 pounds of crayfish in a
single overnight set. My personal best was only 22 pounds. In a average crayfish
populated Lake or River, one can expect to catch 3 to 5 pounds of crayfish when
using the recommended baits in a 24 hour set. Night time is the most productive
catch period because crayfish are predators and hunt fish at night, still
crayfish are also hungry during the day and look for a free meal especially if
they hadn't bagged their trout during the night.
The Commercial Version crayfish trap is identical to it's counterpart, 'The
Sportsman Pro', only the larger size of the trap is very considerable!
The trap is circular and 24 inches in length by 12 inches in diameter. The mesh
size is 1/2" by 1", 16 gauge galvanized wire, the hard to get quality
'American Made' wire. When set, the trap is designed to always land on the bottom in a fishable position. The trap has
2 entrance tunnels with an inside diameter ring of 2 inches. Both inner tunnels
have Escape Proof Guards attached inside to prevent the crayfish from exiting
the trap. Each trap has a reinforcement bar between the tunnels. The center of
the bar contains a loop where a bait hook is inserted and the top of the bar
includes a commercial rope snap to attach to your ground line or single trap
rope. A bait hook is included with every trap, the trap rope is not. The trap
has a large center door with the opening size of 8 inches by 8 inches to allow
for quick removal of the crayfish and quick rebaiting of the trap. The door is
held closed by a thick rubber band with an attached easy to grab hook that hooks
onto the body of the trap. Emptying and rebaiting the trap can be accomplished
in 30 seconds and the trap can be easily emptied into a 5 gallon bucket.
All traps after they have been assembled go through a special process for freshwater conductivity. This process is a trade secret and will not be shared.

The Sportsman Pro crayfish trap is identical to the
Commercial Version only it is scaled down to exactly 75% of the Commercial
Version size to meet conductivity standards. The Sportsman Pro Rules Supreme in
River fishing in comparison to it's counterpart. It's ability to meet almost any
difficult fishing condition is a continued amazement to me.
Other than Rivers the Sportsman Pro trap is ideal for many different types of
crayfishing. Areas with low populations of crayfish, when your time is short and
a quick set is the only option, the ease of tossing the Pro from shore for sets
when a boat is not available, quick live crayfish bait, these are just to name a
few instances where a Sportsman Pro is a Must Have. Using the combination
of Sportsman Pros and Commercial crayfish traps meet all your needs for catching
lots of crayfish!
The Sportsman Pro measure 18 inches in length with a 9 inch diameter and comes with everything the Commercial Version crayfish trap does. The mesh size is 1/2" by 1", 16 gauge galvanized wire, the hard to get quality 'American Made' wire. The wire is galvanized after it has been welded. Many wire manufacturers will weld the wire after it has been galvanized which not only rusts quickly but creates weak welds which often come apart allowing crayfish to escape. Wire quality is very important!

To the Men who are viewing this Information. You may very well want to consider buying 2 traps. At least 50% of the people who buy my traps are women!! If you buy only one, you may very well have it taken away from you by the Lady of the House! I have heard this story so many times it is amazing but not surprising. My wife lives for crayfishing, I have to cook them and she eats more than her share!

After so many requests for Live Bins to hold crayfish in after they have been caught I finally finished developing this little jewel for noncommercial use. Actually I shouldn't use the term little because this holding bin will hold 35 pounds of crayfish safely! The commercial bins I have made and used before frankly were to large and easily held 150 pounds of crayfish and it was no easy chore lifting them out of the water. These bins, even for a single commercial fisherman would be ideal for easy removal and transportation of crayfish. Their size is perfect for handling and shipping, plus you won't break your back lifting them out of the water and removing the crayfish.
The Holding Bin is 18 inches in length, width and height are 11 inches. The door is held closed by 3 rubber retainers and he door opening is 9 inches by 10 inches. The door opening is large enough where you'll never loose a crayfish when you pour a full 5 gallon bucket of Crays in the opening. You may fashion a rope harness on the square bin in any configuration you are comfortable with. The door openings have reinforcement bars on both sides and this bin is so tough that even I could sit on it! The Hold Bin is perfect for any alternate species besides crayfish you wish to keep alive under water. Rope harnesses are not included with the Holding Bin. The video tape is not included and is only in the picture to give reference to the size of the bin.

Snag Proof Snap Eye installed for trap's Rope Snap.

rope end has a snag proof eye for the trap's Rope Snap. The other end is cut
and sealed only.
This is the floating rope which I used commercially for years. There are literally hundreds of different types and sizes of rope to choose from and I'm sure I have tried them all. This type of floating rope served me faithfully for years but access to it is getting hard to come by. While I still have access to a supply of this rope I will be offering it to others until the source dries up, plus I have all I'll ever need. For some reason unknown to me, manufacturers have changed this rope to bright yellow instead of green. Crayfish find the yellow color to be threatening avoid the area.
The Rope Snap shown in the picture IS NOT part of
this sale. All my crayfish traps have Rope Snaps installed on them and the one
in the picture indicates where the trap's Rope Snap would attach to the rope.
The eye of the rope is very important in it's construction. It is critical the
eye of any rope be made in such a way where it has no snag potential. Between
the crayfish trap's snag resistant design and the correct rope to connect to it,
you'll be secure in knowing you will always be able to retrieve your trap
safely!

The difference between the Crayfish Rope Cat #1 Item and this Item is the installation of the Low Profile buoy. This buoy rides low in the water and can be painted to blend with the water thus reducing the odds of the curious. The rope is installed on the buoy in such a way to avoid tangling in surface debris and remain attached due to water action on the surface. Trap loss is quite common by lost buoys as well as the human factor of trap theft. Correctly attaching the correct floatation device to a trap line is very critical. Having the correct floating rope, should the rare occasion arrive, helps reduce trap loss should the buoy be lost or cut.
